practitioners, researchers, educators, and other medical and fitness professionals to assess muscle strength.
Handheld dynamometers are used to assess the strength of muscles of the upper and lower extremity such as elbow flexors (biceps brachii), elbow extensors (triceps brachii), shoulder abductors (deltoids), shoulder internal and external rotators (subscapularis, infraspinatus, teres minor), knee extensors (quadriceps), knee flexors (hamstrings), ankle plantarflexors (gastrocnemius and soleus), and ankle dorsiflexors (tibialis anterior).
Handheld dynamometers provide a more effective and precise way of measuring a person’s muscular strength than does manual muscle testing (MMT) and provide the convenience of enhanced scoring and reporting of values to involved practitioners.
